How to make your Android look like Icecream Sandwich 4.0

The new version of Android, Icecream 4.0, is great! In fact, if I had a spare $700 (£500) lying around it would definitely go on  the new Galaxy Nexus with the shiny new Android OS installed.

Instead, I’m a poor Uni student with less than $700 to spare. That’s why I have installed a few apps and widgets to make my Android look like it’s Android 4.0. That way, I can pretend I have the latest and greatest. I can also enjoy the good looks of 4.0!

1. Theme

First, you need to install a theme. I recommend that you install the Ice Cream Go Launcher EX theme. You need Go Launcher EX installed to use the theme so if you use another launcher, there are other themes available.

2. Wallpaper

The 4.0 themes include a wallpaper. If you want the real deal though, you will want to install the 4.0 live wallpaper. If you don’t mind paying, Ice Cream Sandwich Live WP is a fantastic live wallpaper with many wallpapers from 4.0. If you want a free option then the ICS Phase Beam Live Wallpaper will do the job.

3. Widgets

First, install the free Ice Cream Sandwich Clock. Then, if you want the full range of Ice cream widgets, buy the ICS GOWidget Theme. The pack includes 7 widgets for the GoWidget app.

4. Lock screen

Icecream 4.0 includes a great lock screen. To get it, install the Go Locker ICS Theme. If you haven’t got Go Locker, you will need to install it before you download the theme. Both are free downloads so the lock screen won’t cost you a penny.

 Conclusion

With these four customisations, your Android phone will look just like Android 4.0. Of course, you won’t have all the great new features. However, if you’re going to keep your current phone and it’s not going to receive an upgrade, it’s a great way to improve the way the OS looks and feels.
